It’s very important to us here at Follow Us Home that we work with companies whose ethics we approve of. We chose econscious brand organic cotton t-shirts for showcasing our designs, and here’s what we know about the company:
Do you follow all local laws and rules regarding working hours and working conditions for minors (including no child or youth labor)?
Child Labor: Child labor shall not be used, no person shall be employed at an age younger than 15 (or 14 where the law of the country of manufacture allows) or younger than the age for completing compulsory education in the country of manufacture where such age is higher than 15.
Is there any form of involuntary labor employed by your company (including slave labor, prison labor, indentured labor, or forced labor)?
Forced Labor: There shall be no use of forced labor, whether in the form of prison labor, indentured labor, bonded labor or otherwise. Workers are not required to lodge “deposits” or their identity papers with their employer and are free to leave their employment after a reasonable notice.
Are the working conditions humane? Do you provide humane working hours for your employees? (No form of physical or psychological coercion or intimidation against your workers.)
Hours of Work: Workers shall not, on a regular basis, be required to work more than 48 hours per week; and shall be provided with at least one day off for every 7 day period. Overtime shall be voluntary, shall not exceed 12 hours per week, shall not be demanded on a regular basis and shall always be compensated at a premium rate.
Harassment or Abuse: Every employee shall be treated with respect and dignity. No employee shall be subject to any physical, sexual, psychological or verbal harassment or abuse.
Does your company enforce non-discrimination? (Including no tolerance for discrimination on the basis of: race; color; ethnicity; national origin; religion; gender; gender identity; sexual orientation; disability; any other characteristic protected under applicable law)
Nondiscrimination: No person shall be subject to any discrimination in employment, including hiring, salary, benefits, advancement, discipline, termination or retirement, on the basis of gender, race, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, nationality, political opinion or ethnic origin.

All the factories we work with are required to sign our Workplace Code of Conduct Agreement designed to ensure compliance to wage, child labor, overtime, health, safety and environmental regulations. Workplace Code of Conduct: The health and well-being of our natural and social environments is the cornerstone of the econscious mission. We make every effort to utilize materials and processes that minimize the impact that we have on the planet as well as the health and safety of those who make our products. econscious vendors, subcontractors, suppliers, and business partners agree in writing with our workplace standards and the applicable laws of the country of manufacture, as well as to the monitoring of such compliance.
Health and Safety: Employers shall provide a safe and healthy working environment to prevent accidents and injury to health arising out of, linked with, or occurring in the course of work or as a result of the operation of employer facilities.
Wages and Benefits: Employers recognize that wages are essential to meeting employee’s basic needs. Employers shall pay employees, as a floor, at least the minimum wage required by local law or the prevailing industry wage, whichever is higher, and shall provide legally mandated benefits.
We produce our heathered jersey styles (style EC1080, EC1085, EC1588, 3800) in India in a factory that is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was developed through collaboration by leading standard setters with the aim of defining requirements that are recognized world-wide and that ensure the organic status of textiles from harvesting of the raw materials through environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing all the way to labelling in order to provide credible assurance to the consumer.GOTS is generally considered to be the gold standard of organic cotton production standards because of its scope and detail. We have a long standing relationship with our primary apparel factory that began in 2006 when we founded econscious. Situated in Pakistan and certified to GOTS, this factory produces beautifully crafted finished goods that are nearly unparalleled the world over. econscious styles made in Pakistan include: Style EC1075, EC3000, EC3500, EC2500, EC2501, EC5500, EC 5650, EC4501, EC4580, EC5680, EC55700, EC8000, EC8001, EC8040, EC8050). Our style EC1000 & EC1500 are knit, cut and sewn in Mexico, with dyeing taking place in the US, compliant with all US environmental manufacturing regulations. The dyes used are guaranteed to be azo and formaldehyde free. The organic cotton fiber is imported and certified to the GOTS. On-site inspections conducted by econscious personnel.
Our headwear is produced in China at a production location WRAP certified (Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production). We have worked with this factory 15 years. Several bags are also made in China (EC8000, EC8001, EC8005) with a factory we have worked with since 1991. Further, our parent company, maintains a staff of 26 in our Shanghai office so we are able to on-site inspections on a regular basis. In addition, our owners and executive team travel frequently to Asia to visit our supply chain partners.
Quality Control is conducted by in-house QC teams in China and Mexico, independent third-party agencies ensure the highest standards of quality are maintained in India and Pakistan.
Our cotton fiber is certified by Control Union (formerly known as SKAL) as well as other certification bodies recognized by the USDA NOP. Our yarn is handled in accordance with, and certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Organic Transaction certificates are always available upon request. Most econscious styles are processed in dying facilities certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 standard. The two exceptions (style EC1000, style EC1500) are dyed within the United States and comply with US environmental regulations.
Since its introduction in 1992, the central focus of the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 has been the development of test criteria, limit values and test methods on a scientific basis. On the basis of its comprehensive and strict catalogue of measures, with several hundred regulated individual substances, the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 takes account of:
- Important legal regulations, such as banned Azo colourants, formaldehyde, pentachlorophenol, cadmium, nickel, etc.
- Numerous harmful chemicals, even if they are not yet legally regulated.
- Requirements of Annexes XVII and XIV of the European Chemicals Regulation REACh as well as of the ECHA SVHC Candidate List insofar as they are assessed by expert groups of the OEKO-TEX® Association to be relevant for fabrics, textiles, garments or accessories. Discussions and
