Year of the Rat
I was only five days into January when I realized that 2020 was going to be a pivotal year for me. I actually sensed the changes coming even before the ball had officially dropped, but January 5th quickly confirmed the feelings. And then, so did the days of February…and March…and April. Some pretty significant changes arrived in May, too. And not to be outdone, June’s been working on … Continue reading

Monday is my 46th birthday.
Lest you think that I’m distraught about that number creeping ever closer to 50, you can think again. Although it defies the prevalent attitude of our times (a quick peek around me shows a world fiercely intent on resisting the inevitable aging process), I’m perfectly okay with leaving the twenty-somethings to their youth. Give me the experiences, the understanding, and maybe even a wee bit of the wisdom that comes with age, and I’m a super happy lady. It’s … Continue reading

In what you say of another, apply the test of kindness, necessity and truth, and let nothing pass your lips without a 2/3 majority.
So…I Told You
For most of my life, I didn’t understand (and I definitely didn’t appreciate) that simply because you have an opinion–even a “helpful” one–it doesn’t mean that you need to share it. I always figured that if I was in the position to see how you were screwing up your life, repeating … Continue reading
Finally, another installment in my Vegan Q&A series. It may be slow going, but I’m back, and today I’m going to tackle the question of: But where do you get your protein?
If I’m being honest, a lot of these common concerns are laughable for those of us already living a plant-based life. Not because they’re stupid questions, but because living on the other side of the meat industry we’ve seen the falsehood behind so many of the “facts” we hold so true and dear. Thinking back to the days before going vegan, I remember I had many of … Continue reading
My intention for this week’s post was to start answering questions in my vegan series. I had a thought all picked out, my facts were checked, my ideas were organized…and then? As usual, things didn’t go quite as planned. (Yeah, I know. I say that all the time now.) I did manage to pull together a tasty vegan spiced apple chia parfait recipe, though, which keeps me somewhat on track and allows me to pretend that I’m still running this whole show. (It’s okay, laugh if you want. I am, even as I type out these words, because we both … Continue reading

I almost can’t believe another Christmas has come and gone, just like that. Because even though I made sure to thoroughly embrace all of my favorite holiday traditions, life was just so busy this year that it feels like the day kind of snuck on past. With barely a whisper. A really lovely and peaceful and joyful whisper, but still a whisper. And it’s a decidedly surprising feeling to be on the other side of it already.
And yet here I am, thoroughly … Continue reading
